Part Of RM70 Million Allocation Under Podium Programme To Be Used For Development Of Coaches
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 – A part of the RM70 million allocated for the Elite Sports Podium Programme in the 2017 Budget would be used for the development of coaches said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Khairy said the Youth and Sports Ministry would use a part of the allocation to pay the salary of coaches involved in the programme Podium and Kita Juara programmes.
“I will also find some allocation to upgrade the National Coaching Academy (AKK). Will discuss the matter with National Sports Institute chief executive officer Dr Mohd Khairi Zawi.
“We don’t just need coaches but educated coaches who can teach our coaches and “that’s the things we need to spend on,” he said when opening the National Coaching Conference 2016 in Seri Kembangan, near here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the 2017 Budget in Dewan Rakyat last Friday, announced an allocation RM1.2 billion for the development of sports in the country.
The allocation included RM450 million to host the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and the Asean Para Games next year and RM70 million for the preparation of athletes under the Elite Sports Podium Programme.
The two-day National Coaching Conference was attended 200 coaches.
