My focus as the Minister of Youth and Sports is based on the need to engage, empower, activate and ultimately impact the Youth of Malaysia.
Malaysian youth have a variety of opinions and ideologies, perceptions, impressions, allegiances and activism. We respect and admire this zeal in our youth. However, it is imperative we have a common understanding – that we must consciously and continuously work together towards a better Malaysia, for ourselves and for the generations to come.
Nation building is always a work in progress, which is what makes Malaysia so exciting. As it stands now there are a myriad of opportunities for people to contribute be it in a big or small way. We can set the tone for a future that we can be proud of by putting in place exemplary standards in competitiveness, integrity, teamwork and excellence; the sky’s the limit.
I believe that Youth and Youth movements are the key enablers of our nation’s continued success both at home and in the international domain. We need to foster a spirit that promotes learning, discussion and debate for these are the key ingredients to continued growth.
Under my guidance, Youth activities from my Ministry will focus on three key aspects as an expansion from our charter:
1. Exposure & Opportunities – Confidence Building
2. Engagement & Activism – Community Development
3. Support & Engage – Utilise Youth for Malaysia
My team will, from time to time, be updating our efforts and activities around these three components in this section as well as the relevant affiliated sites to provide opportunities for young people to work with us, help us and collaborate with us.
We will focus on Youth as a theme itself and also in conjunction with Sports to help provide a robust roadmap of activities.
To all young Malaysians – I thank you in advance and I hope you can support us by participating in our events, activities and initiatives. This part is all about you, and the more you take part, the better our efforts will be. Please volunteer and help us improve; constructive feedback is valuable and always welcome.
